Hammond, La. - The University of Texas at Arlington softball squad recorded an 11-1 win and a 6-1 victory in day one of a double-header against Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Hammond, La. The wins improved the Mavericks to 23-21 overall while the Lions dropped to 19-33 on the 2009 season.

UTA 11, SELU 1 Junior Cara Hulme (13-13) carried the Mavs to their 15th SLC win in game one against the Lions, pitching a complete game, allowing a run on seven hits while striking out six.

Samantha Chumchal and Jaimee Stinson connected on home runs while Heather Fortenberry, Courtney Zink and Whitney Simpson each recorded multi-hit performances.

Both teams were silent through four innings, until the top of the fifth when UTA connected on five runs on four hits. The Mavericks took advantage of a pair of Lions errors, scoring two runs in the inning.

UT Arlington came right back in the sixth frame, scoring three runs on a two-run homer by Chumchal and a Zink RBI-single to right field.

SELU's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth after K. Duhe connected on a triple to center field and scored on a H. Sherrill single to right field.

The Mavericks finished off the Lions in seventh, plating three runs on three hits. Hulme and Kelsey Kaiser connected on singles while Stinson recorded a two-RBI home run to left field.

Once again the Mavericks managed to hold the Lions to one run as they took game two of the three-game series, 6-1. Cassandra Nordie picked up the victory for UTA, improving to 3-2 while pitching a complete game. Nordie connected on a three-RBI home run in the top of the seventh.



UT Arlington connected on runs in the second, sixth and four in the seventh. Stinson singled up the middle, scoring Nordie in the top of the second while Fortenberry connected on single to right field, plating Kaiser in the sixth and gave the Mavs a 2-1 lead.

UTA wrapped up the game in the final inning when Nordie stroked a pitch over the left field fence, scoring Rebecca Collom, and Charne Office. The fourth run for the Mavs came on a throwing error by the Lions, that scored Kaiser.

The Mavericks return to the diamond tomorrow for game three of the series at noon.
