ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington softball will closeout the regular season with its eighth SLC series of the season, against Nicholls State. The Mavs (34-14, 19-5) need just one win over the Colonels (26-26, 15-11) to clinch their third regular season title and second No. 1 seeding for the SLC tournament.

The series will kick-off with the first game of a double header, which was originally scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday has been pushed back to 2 p.m., due to finals. In between games of the double header, the Mavs will honor three of its senior's; third baseman Courtney Anderson, catcher Courtni Anderson and first baseman Dee Jay Nelson. Nelson, the Mavs third leading batter, became UTA's career home run leader with 23 after hitting a pair of homers on April 28 against Central Arkansas.

The Mavs are coming off a three game sweep of SLC newcomer Central Arkansas last weekend, while the Colonels fell in both games of a double header to No. 24 Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday.

Junior Katie Jones continues to lead UTA with a .442 average and 13 home runs on the season. Jones ranks 18 nationally for batting average and 11th hardest person in the nation to strike out.

A junior, Kat Harrell, leads the Colonels and the SLC with a .474 batting average and has a .793 slugging percentage on the season.

In the circle, freshman Heather Fortenberry (13-3) leads the Mavs with a 2.31 ERA and 103 strikeouts, while junior Jessica Barksdale (5-7) leads Nicholls with a 2.71 ERA. UTA's Laura Jones (14-4) owns a 2.79 ERA as she splits time on the mound with Fortenberry.
