Hammond, La. - Three UTA runs in the seventh was enough to overcome Southeastern Louisiana in the final game as the Mavs fell, 5-4 in Hammond, La. at the North Oak Park. The Mavericks fell to 23-22 overall while the Lions improved to 20-33 on the season.
Heather Fortenberry (7-7) took the loss, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and walking three. Cara Hulme came in as the relief pitcher in the second, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and fanning five.
Fortenberry gave up two runs in the first and a run in the second that would prove costly for the Mavericks. UT Arlington connected on a run in the top of the second on two hits. Kaiser singled up the middle, scoring Brittany Washington who singled to left field earlier in the inning.
SELU added another run in the bottom of the fourth when Allyson McCubbins doubled down the left field line, scoring Amber Freeman, making the score 4-1.
Back-to-back doubles in the sixth plated another run for the Lions, giving SELU a 5-1 advantage. A three-run homer to right center by Collom in the final inning wasn't enough for UTA as Erica LeFlore ended the inning with a fly ball to right field.
UT Arlington returns to the diamond this weekend for the start of the Southland Conference Tournament in Lake Charles, La. The Mavericks opponent and time will be determined on Monday.
