SAN MARCOS, Texas - The UT Arlignton softball team had to wait extra innings to find out who its opponent would be on Friday at 4 p.m. Nicholls State finally pulled out the 3-2 over UTSA in the tenth inning to advance to the semifinals of the Southland Confernece Tournament.
The sixth seeded Colonels started their day by sending Sam Houston State home early, 2-1. In the final game of the night Nicholls came back to tie the 'Runners 2-2 in the top of the seventh on a solo home run from Amy Thibodeaux. After two scoreless innings, Thibodeaux hit her second home run of the game to put the Colonel's up 3-2. UTSA failed to score in the home half of the inning and Nicholls advances.
The Mavericks won two-of-three in the series with the Colonels earlier this season, including a 5-0 shutout in the second game of the doubleheader.
First pitch of the game is set for 4 p.m. at Bobcat Field in San Marcos. The winner if this game will advance to the championship game on Saturday.
