Lyles named second-team All-WAC.

May 8, 2013

RUSTON, Louisiana – Nina Villanueva was named first team All-WAC, while senior pitcher Teri Lyles was named second team All-WAC.

"I'm really proud of our girls," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "Nina has one of the best batting averages in the conference and I think she's very deserving of this award.

"I thought Teri should have gotten first team. She worked really hard for us all year and kept us in some close games, but we barely made it into the tournament and we have two girls on the all-conference teams so I’m proud of them."

Villanueva, the San Diego, Calif., native posted a .438 batting average through all Western Athletic Conference games with a .531 slugging percentage. The sophomore transfer picked up her first home run of her career in a 2-1 victory over Metroplex rival North Texas.

Lyles posted a 1.81 ERA throughout conference play and leads the WAC in all games played with a 1.58 ERA in 208.1 innings pitched. She was also named WAC Pitcher of the Week three times throughout the course of the season.
