Ruston, Louisiana – UT Arlington sophomore standout Nina Villanueva was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team.
"Nina had a great season and that continued into the WAC tournament," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "Every time she was up I knew we had a chance for something good to happen. I was really proud to see her step up for us at shortstop and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her in this program."
The San Diego, Calif. native is a transfer from Cal State Montery Bay, and completed the tournament with a .444 batting average with four hits, one run and one RBI.
"This is such a great honor and totally unexpected," Villanueva said. "The whole team played really hard all week and I’m happy to represent UTA on the All-Tournament team."
Villanueva also played solid defense for the Mavericks, stopping everything that came her why with no errors, six putouts and 10 assists.
