ARLINGTON, Texas - For the second consecutive season, UT Arlington softball is postseason bound after receiving a selection to the National Invitational Softball Championship.
The Mavericks will play in the Conway, Ark. Regional, with host Central Arkansas as the first opponent and Texas Tech and Stephen F. Austin also in the regional. UTA and Central Arkansas meet in the first-round matchup at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Mavericks (27-26) are into the postseason for the first time in back-to-back years after a fourth-place finish in the Sun Belt, the team’s highest finish since joining the league in 2014. The Sun Belt Conference finished with two teams being selected into the NCAA Tournament (League champion Texas State, and No. 21 Louisiana), while UTA is the lone team selected to the NISC, earning the league's automatic berth.
The Mavericks are 2–4 all-time in the postseason, the last win coming against Florida State in the 2003 NCAA regionals (also defeating Alabama in the same run). UTA was 0-2 in the NISC in 2017, falling to Abilene Christian and ULM in the Beaumont Regional.
