ARLINGTON, Texas – Recent UT Arlington graduate Teri Lyles has been asked to join the Vienna Mosquitoes. Lyles pitched for the Mavericks during a four-year career from 2010-13.
“I'm really excited to branch out and do something I've never done and experience something so different from what I've always known,” Lyles said. “I'm eager to learn new things and learn their culture.”
The Mosquitoes are part of the Austrian Softball League, which is organized by the Austrian Baseball and Softball Federation. The league is comprised of seven teams with each team playing the other six teams four times.
Lyles and the Mosquitoes open their season May 26 in a doubleheader against the Crazy Chicklets Wr. Neustadt.
At the conclusion of the regular season the top four teams advance to the tournament to become the Austrian Champion. The Mosquitoes will go on to compete in the European Cup A pool in Prague in August.
“Anytime you get the opportunity to go overseas and just see another culture and play the sport you love, it’s such a good experience,” UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said.
