ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team announced the signing of freshman Marisa Datko, a middle infielder from San Diego, Calif.
"Marissa will bring a great deal of depth and support to our middle infield," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "She has a great attitude and love for this game. I think she is another great addition to this teams already strong chemistry."
Datko will join six other softball newcomers -- Shannon Carrico, Kacey Everett, Riley Fira, Mallory Foster, Rebecka Mintz, and Shelbi Sikes -- as the Mavericks enter the Sun Belt Conference in 2014.
The 5-foot-6 San Diego native was a four-year letterwinner for Scripps Ranch High School. Datko earned second-team Eastern League honors in 2011 and 2012, and moved up to first-team Eastern League in 2013. She was also named MVP as a senior in 2013. Scripps Ranch softball earned Eastern League crowns in 2010, 2011 and 2013, while being named co-Eastern League champions in 2012.
Datko plans to major in business or finance at UT Arlington.
