The UT Arlington softball team dominated their first of five fall games at Allan Saxe Field Friday night. The Mavericks shutout Paris Junior College 4-0 in game one and followed with a 6-0 victory in game two.

"Overall I was pleased with what I saw tonight being that we've only been on the field for a week," said Head Coach Debbie Hedrick. "These games gave us an opportunity to see different situations so we can learn from our mistakes and get better."

All 19 players got a chance to get an at bat and newcomers Alexis Cantu and Callie Collins made their first appearance on the mound.

Teri Lyles, last year's Southland Conference Freshman of the Year pitched three innings in game one. Cantu came in relief pitching the final four frames.

The freshman pitchers teamed up in game two shutting out PJC. Collins tossed five innings and Cantu pitched two frames.

UTA's fall schedule continues October 2 when the Mavericks host Northeast Texas Community College and East Texas Baptist. Game times are set for 1 and 3 p.m.
