ARLINGTON, Texas – A record-breaking team on the field, a hard working team off of it. UT Arlington softball was recognized as a 2015-16 Easton/NFCA Division I All-Academic team for its tremendous work in the classroom.
The Mavericks finished 26th in the nation with a 3.47 team GPA and had 12 individuals selected as Easton Scholar-Athletes. The team mark was the best in the Sun Belt Conference.
"These young ladies continue to represent the softball program at such a high level," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "They hold each other accountable and expect excellence not just on the field but in the classroom as well. I really think that you can see that these young ladies have the characteristics to become leaders in our community and represent UT Arlington and the softball program for the rest of their lives."
UTA's selections were Brianna Burchianti, Laura Curry, Marisa Datko, Kayla Donaldson, Kacey Everett, Joni Hanke, Kayci Moore, Cy'Andria Newton, Krista Rude, Shelbi Sikes, Taylor Simmonds and Calin Sims.
The selections best the six selections from 2015, while Datko and Simmonds were recognized for back-to-back years to earn academic honors.
The Mavericks opened 2016 with a 19-0 start on the way to receiving votes in the national polls. Information regarding the 2017 schedule and ticketing information will be released in the coming months.
