ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team faced Temple Junior College and Hill Junior College last week and beat both teams.
The Mavericks faced Temple on Thursday at Allan Saxe Field, defeating the Leopards 7-2. UTA was scoreless through five innings, but turned the game around by scoring all seven runs in the final five innings.
"The ladies that came in later in the game did a really good job of taking advantage of their opportunity," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said.
The Mavs hosted Hill on Friday afternoon. UTA scored its first run in the fourth inning and continued the momentum through the rest of the game, scoring 15 runs and allowing just one Hill runner to cross the plate.
"The game went well for us," UT Arlington assistant coach Meagan Denny-White said. "We just tried to score early and often. We took a couple of innings to get runs, but we finally did and we started scoring every inning, which is what we want."
Freshman Marisa Datko went 2-for-3 and had two doubles against Hill.
The Mavericks have the week off before hosting McLennan Junior College on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
