ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington women's tennis won its third straight match 6-1 over Texas State on Sunday. It was the first conference match for both team, moving the Mavs record to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in SLC action. Texas State moves to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in SLC action.
First the Mavs captured the doubles point winning all three matches. The No. 3 doubles between UTA's Marissa Brown and Sofya Lifanova and Texas State's Ashley Ellis and Mackenzie Farmer went to a tie breaker with the Mavs coming out on top.
The Bobcats lone point came from Sumarie Muller in the No. 5 singles slot (1-6, 4-3 DNF) against UTA's Brown. No. 1 single Monika Peciulionyte struggled late in the second set, but pulled out the win 6-4, 7-5 over Ellis for the Mavs sixth point.
Daniela Novakova picked-up the Mavs first single's point of the day 6-2, 6-1 over Andrea Giraldo in the No. 2 slot.Sara Pesic at the No. 6 slot won 6-1, 6-1 over TXST's Natalie McLeod, while Mavs Simri van Rooyen and Lifonova both won their matches 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 and No. 4 slots respectively.
UTA will return to action when it takes on TCU in Fort Worth. The match is scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m.
