Women's tennis takes down No. 59 Wichita State

Wichita, Kan. - The UT Arlington women's tennis team recorded one of the biggest wins in recent years Saturday afternoon against No. 59 Wichita State. The Mavericks won the decision 4-3.
UTA picked up the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and 3 flights. In singles action, the Mavericks recorded wins in the No. 2, 3 and 6 flights to earn the victory.
Maria Martinez-Romero and Katarina Matovicova clinched the No. 3 flight against Delia Damaschin and Blasco Fernandez, 8-5.
Leading 1-0 the Mavericks headed into singles action where they knew the matches could go any way. UTA used all their efforts to pull out the win against the top ranked Shockers.
Negreanu's match was the first to be finished as she dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision against Budiharto in the top flight.
Matovicova followed with a 6-3, 6-4 loss against Damaschin in the No. 5 position while Mayuk also dropped the No. 4 flight against Venticinque with scores of 6-3, 0-6 and 6-2.
With the Mavericks now trailing 3-1, Aqvist, Martinez-Romero and D'Ortona flights became extremely crucial.
Aqvist pulled out a huge win over Blaskova with scores of 7-5, 2-6 and 6-4 in the No. 2 flight, to put the Mavericks within one at 3-2.
D'Ortona tied the match at 3-3 after she also captured a three-set win over Montse Blasco Fernandez, 7-5, 4-6 and 7-6 (5)in the No. 6 flight.
The match all came down to the No. 3 flight which was Martinez-Romero against Zotter. The junior stepped up and collected a 6-4, 6-7 (6) victory.
UT Arlington takes on Wyoming on Sunday, February 27 in Wichita, KS at 11 a.m.
