ARLINGTON, Texas—The women lost 4-3 to the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Friday, March 1 at the UTA Tennis Center.
“It was a tough match,” assistant Dimitry Minkin said. “We didn’t play well in doubles, but the team as able to turn it around in singles.
“Unfortunately we fell short at the end, but everyone was fighting hard until the last moment.”
The Ladyjacks jumped out to an early lead grabbing the doubles points after winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
SFA knocked off Brook Dennis at the No. 1 singles position for its first singles point of the game 6-1, 6-1. The Mavericks took the next three points as Giada D’Ortona, Elizabeth Thoms and Verena Scott won their matches, respectively.
UT Arlington was up 3-2, but the Ladyjacks were relentless as the final match ended and SFA won at the No. 2 position with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
The Mavericks fall to 1-3 on the season and will be back on the court Sunday, March 3 as they take on UC Santa Barbra at 10 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
