WOMEN'S TENNIS WEEKEND REVIEW

ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team split its matches this weekend in Southland Conference action at the UTA Tennis Center. The Mavs (1-4, 1-1) started the weekend with a 6-1 win over Central Arkansas before falling to Northwestern State 5-2 on Sunday.
On Saturday, UTA won two of the three doubles matches to head into singles play with a 1-0 lead over the Sugar Bears. The Mavs won all but one of the singles matches to claim their first SLC win of the season.
In the No. 1 spot, sophomore Klara Jagosova won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 over Petra Keilova. Freshman Monika Hadvigerova followed suit, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Rebecca Miller as the No. 2 singles. Freshman Daiana Negreanu handed Lisa Mainz a 6-0, 6-3 loss in the No. 3 position. The No. 4 single, sophomore Sofya Lifanova won her match 6-2, 6-0 over Heidi Miller. Junior Sara Pesic in the No. 5 slot picked up the sixth point for the Mavs, 6-3, 6-2 downing Rebecca McCullough.
On Sunday, Jagosova and Hadvigerova teamed up to win the Mavs only double match. They were also responsible for scoring UTA's points in the singles competition. Jagosova took Bogusia Patzer to three sets winning 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 in the top spot. As the No. 2 single, Hadvigerova handed Kathrin Lange the 6-4, 6-1 loss.
The Mavs will continue Southland Conference action as they travel to take on Lamar on Friday, March 7.
