ARLINGTON, Texas--The UT Arlington women's tennis team fell 4-2 to the No. 19 TCU Horned Frogs Wednesday, March 6 at the UTA Tennis Center.

The Mavericks fall to 1-5 on the season.

"Doubles play was excellent," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We executed our fundamentals and it paid off."

The women took the lead early winning the doubles points. No. 1 doubles Brooke Dennis and Elizabeth Thoms defeated TCU's No. 1 doubles team 8-5. Giada D'ortona and Verena Scott also won their doubles 8-5 to give the Mavericks the 1-0 lead headed into singles competition.

Despite competing well against a nationally ranked opponent, the Mavericks fell short during singles. Thoms took her match 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 5 position against TCU's Dent. Scott was tied in the third set after the first two went 6-4, 4-6, but went unfinished when Katarina Dikosavljevic lost a tough match at the No. 1 position (6-4, 7-5).

"In singles TCU was strong in all lines," Benitez said. "We were very close to beating a top 20 team."

The Mavericks are back on the court Thursday at 2 p.m. as they take on Wichita State at the UTA Tennis Center.
