HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Texas-Arlington women's tennis team opened Southland Conference play with a 4-3 victory over Sam Houston State, Tuesday afternoon.
Texas-Arlington (0-5) opened the day by taking two of the three doubles matches, to take the doubles point. Juniors Simri van Rooyen and Monika Peciulionyte defeated Emma McDougall and Peta Taylor, 8-3. Senior Anete Rozkalne and junior Marissa Brown bested Brooke Mills and Kim Janek, 8-4, to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play #53 Klara Jagosova took down Irina Sotnikova, 6-1, 6-4, at the number one singles position. Peciulionyte defeated McDougall, 7-5, 6-4, at the number four singles position and Rozkalne clinched the match for the Lady Mavericks beating Taylor, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, at the number five singles position.
The Lady Mavericks will be back in action Saturday, when they travel to take on SLC-foe Southeastern Louisiana. First-serve is set for 10 a.m.
