ARLINGTON, Texas--The UT Arlington women's tennis team fell 4-2 to the No. 53 Columbia Lions Monday, March 18 at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks were able to jump ahead early winning the doubles point.
"We continue to play good doubles," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "As a top 50 team, we knew Columbia was going to be hard in singles and we came close."
Katarina Dikosavljevic took on the No. 61 nationally ranked Nicole Bartnik at the No. 1 singles position, but couldn't compete against competitive Bartnik.
Giada D'ortona competed at the No. 2 singles position for the first time this season and took down her Columbia opponent 6-4, 6-0.
"Now our focus shifts to conference play with when we face Denver on Thursday," Benitez said about the women's first Western Athletic Conference match of the season.
