No. 66 Mavericks fall to No. 57 Cal Poly

Sacramento, Calif. - The No. 66 women's tennis team suffered a 5-1 loss against No. 57 Cal Poly Saturday in Santa Barbara, CA. The setback dropped the Mavs to 9-3 overall.
Junior Maria Martinez-Romero was the only Maverick to record a point for UTA. Martinez-Romero extended her perfect singles record to 12-0 after winning a 3-6, 6-0 and 6-4 decision in the No. 3 singles flight against Florence Lehane.
The junior also teamed up with Katarina Mlcochova to record a 9-7 win in the No. 3 doubles position against Lehane and Gabrielle Gatewood.
Alexa Lee handed Negreanu a 7-6, 6-0 loss in the top singles flight while Aqvist match was suspended due to rain. Aqvist faced Margarita Spicin where the match score was 4-6, 6-4, and 3-3 when it was called.
Mayuk suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback against Ashley Pane in the No. 4 flight while Mlcochova fell in the No. 5 position against Jennifer Cornea, 6-7, 7-6, and 7-5.
Kathryn Webb defeated D'ortona 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 6 flight.
The Mavericks return to the UTA Tennis Center where they will face TCU on Wednesday, March 23. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
