Arlington, Texas - The No. 59 women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss against No. 75 TCU on Wednesday at the UTA Tennis Center. The setback dropped the Mavericks to 9-4 overall while the TCU Horned Frogs improved to 5-6.
UT Arlington dropped the doubles point, falling in the No.1 and 2 positions. In the top doubles flight, Daiana Negreanu and Linda Aqvist suffered an 8-6 setback against Katariina Tuohimaa and Federica Denti.
UTA moved to singles action where they continued to struggle, dropping the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 flights.
Negreanu picked up her eighth singles win of the season against Katariina Tuohimaa 7-5, 6-2 in the top flight.
Mayuk captured the second point for the Mavericks, winning a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Idunn Hertzberg in the No. 5 spot.
Aqvist suffered a 3-6, 6-0, and 6-3 loss in the No. 2 flight against Federica Denti while Martinez-Romero dropped her first match of the season to Mastromarino, 4-6, 7-6, and 10-5 in the No. 3 position.
Smith defeated Katarina Mlcochova 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 position while D'ortona dropped the No. 6 flight against Sahoo, 2-6, 6-1, and 6-3.
The Mavericks will get back into conference action on Saturday, March 26 when they take on Texas State at the UTA Tennis Center. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
