Mavericks Take Down Cardinals 5-2

Beaumont, Texas - The Southland Conference leaders once again took care of business on the road taking down Lamar University (8-8, 3-0) 5-2 in Beaumont, Texas at the Lamar Tennis Facility. UT Arlington improved to 7-4 overall and 7-0 in conference action.

Doubles action has been the Mavericks friend this season as they have pulled together and secured the point, winning two of the three flights.

In the No. 1 doubles spot, Kiara Jagosova and Daiana Negreanu handed Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Manijee Ashrafi an 8-2 setback while Lamar's No. 2 doubles team Kaltrina Harbuzi and Natalia Mayagoitia handed Katarina Micochova and Monika Hadvigerova an 8-3 loss.

Maria Martinez-Romer and Nikola Matovicovas sealed the No. 3 spot with an 8-2 victory over Manami Kuroda and Diana Mendez. The tandem continues to remain perfect in doubles play.

UT Arlington headed into singles action with a 1-0 advantage over the Cardinals and had their sights on winning every flight.

Martinez-Romero improved her singles overall record to 8-2 and 7-0 in conference action after she notched the Mavericks first singles point with a 6-2, 6-0 over Mayagoitia in the No. 4 spot.

Micochova recorded the next point for the Mavs after winning the No. 3 flight with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ashrafi while Negreanu clinched the match for UTA at the No. 5 position with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory.

Hadvigerova dropped the No. 1 flight to Gutierrez 6-4, 6-1 while Matovicova collected the No. 6 flight over Mendez with a three-set win, 6-0, 6-7, and 10-5. Jagosova dropped a hard-fought match at the No. 2 position to Harbuzi with a score of 6-7, 6-1, and 10-5.

The Mavs will take a break from the road when they host four teams at the UTA Tennis Center. UT Arlington takes on Sam Houston State on Friday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
