DENTON, Texas - UT Arlington women's tennis swept metroplex rival North Texas 4-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
"We came out strong in doubles and put a very important point on the board," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "That carried the momentum into singles and gave us the confidence that we could win the match.
"You could tell that the team had an objective in mind and it was executed to perfection."
Sophomore Elizabeth Thoms and freshman Angeles de los Rios defeated North Texas 8-5, while senior Giada D'ortona and junior Christine Foote defeated North Texas 8-4 to give the Mavericks a 1-0 advantage leading into singles competition.
Thoms, de los Rios and Astrid Gehre all won in straight sets as the Mavericks improved to 10-7 overall.
UT Arlington returns to the UTA Tennis Center to take on Middle Tennessee Friday at 2 p.m. and Sun Belt Conference for Texas State Sunday at 11 a.m.
