ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington women's tennis defeated Middle Tennessee 4-2 Friday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center.
"It was a very competitive match, but I thought we raised our level when facing the pressure points," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "We played gutsy plays and it paid off big in the end."
The Mavericks improved to 11-7 and are on a three-match winning streak.
UT Arlington was able to take the lead after winning the doubles point at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 advantage over the Blue Raiders.
Elizabeth Thoms and Ekaterina Tugarinova each defeated their respective Middle Tennessee opponent in straight sets. Freshman Angeles de los Rios took down Tiffany Grace at the No. 3 position 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
The Mavericks return to the court Sunday as they take on Sun Belt Conference opponent Texas State at 11 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
