Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team dropped their first conference match of the season to the undefeated Northwestern State Lady Demons Saturday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center. The setback dropped the Mavs to 9-6 overall and 9-1 in the SLC.
With the conference title on the line, the defending SLC champions came up short falling 6-1 to the Lady Demons.
The Mavs started off with doubles action falling in two of the three matches and losing the point.
Klara Jagosova and Daiana Negreanu dropped a 9-7 decision to Olga Bazhanova and Adna Curukovic in the No. 1 spot while Monika Hadvigerova and Katarina Mlcochova lost an 8-5 decision to Andrea Nedorostova and Martina Rubesova.
In singles action, Daiana Negreanu was the only UTA player to record a win. Negreanu handed Nedorostova a 6-4, 7-5 loss in the No. 5 spot.
Hadvigerova suffered a 6-4, 6-4 setback in the No. 1 position to Bazhanova while Jagosova dropped a three set decision to Curukovic, 7-6 (9-7), 2-6, and 6-3 in the No. 2 spot.
Mlcochova lost the No. 3 match to Rubesova, 4-6, 6-3, and 6-4 while Martinez-Romero suffered a 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), and 6-2 setback against Lange.
Matovicova lost the No. 6 match to Schulz 6-3, 6-3.
The Mavs complete conference action on Monday, Apr. 12 at 10 a.m. when they host Central Arkansas at the UTA Tennis Center.
