Mavericks Open SLC Tournament with 4-1 Win

Corpus Christi, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team completed day one of the Southland Conference Tournament with a 4-1 victory over No. 7 seed Southeastern Louisiana Friday morning at the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The first round win improved the Mavs to 11-6 overall.
The Mavericks will continue tournament action tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. playing the winner of No. 3 seed Texas State and No. 6 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
"I'm very happy with the way that we played and the end result," said head coach Diego Benitez. "We played with a lot of intensity from the beginning and dominated the doubles in a very good way. That gave us a lot of confidence going into singles."
With UT Arlington well rested, the Mavericks opened doubles action by winning two of the three flights and earning the point. The number two flight went unfinished. Second Team All-SLC doubles team-Maria Martinez-Romero and Nikola Matovicova wrapped up the No. 3 flight over Mia Hagiu and Annika Hanke with an 8-2 win while Daiana Negreanu and Klara Jagosova handed Audrey Chelini and Camille Pilon an 8-1 setback in the No. 1 position.
After a short break, UTA moved onto singles action with a 1-0 advantage. Morgane Dadot tied the Lady Lions up at 1-1 with a straight set win over Mlcochova in the No. 2 spot but that didn't last for long as Martinez-Romero notched a 6-0, 6-2 win over Schmeid in the No. 4 flight.
Junior Negreanu extended the Mavericks lead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Isabel Brito in the No. 5 spot and Matovicova sealed the Mavs first round win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 6 spot.
Hadvigerova and Jagosova's flights went unfinished at the No. 1 and 3 positions.
