NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team fell to the No. 46 Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks 4-0 in the Southland Conference Championship Saturday afternoon.
Senior Natalia Mayuk and doubles partner Giada D'ortona defeated Alina Shazhko and Jithmie Jayawickrema 8-2 at the No. 2 doubles spot, but unfortunately No. 1 and No. 3 doubles were unable to come away with a victory for the Mavericks.
UT Arlington headed into singles play down 1-0 to the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Freshman Christine Foote fell 6-0, 6-4 to her SFA opponent, Jithmie Jayawickrema at the No. 6 singles position.
Stephen F. Austin was undefeated in league play until the Mavericks swept the Ladyjack 4-0 earlier this month, but SFA would not let up today.
"UTA is a good team," Stephen F. Austin head coach Patrick Sullivan said about his team's victory. "They are a team that we respect. They play the game the right way."
The Mavericks completed the season with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-2 regular season record in the Southland Conference.
