No. 69 Mavericks season comes to an end at No. 7 Baylor

Waco, Texas - The No. 69 Mavericks successful 2011 season came to a close Saturday following a 4-0 loss against No. 7 Baylor in the first round of the NCAA Championships at the Baylor Tennis Center.
"I'm so proud of our girls today," said head coach Diego Benitez. "They came out playing great tennis and we were up in three courts when the match was stopped. We fought hard and left everything on the court. It was a great way to finish a wonderful season!"
UTA's loss to the Baylor Bears in the NCAA Championships marked the second time in three years and snapped an 11-match win streak.
The Mavs opened with doubles where they dropped the point and lost three of the six singles flights.
After a quick intermission following doubles, UT Arlington closed out the match with singles. The Mavs suffered three losses and the other three flights went unfinished.
Junior Katarina Mlcochova lost the No. 5 match to Filipiak with scores of 6-1, 6-1 while Maria Martinez-Romero suffered only her second loss of the season against No. 47 Diana Nakic in the No. 3 position.
SLC Freshman of the Year Aqvist dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision against No. 49 Nina Severbegovic in the No. 2 spot. Negreanu, Mayuk and D'Ortona's matches went unfinished. Negreanu and Mayuk's matches were against nationally-ranked opponents.
The Mavericks closed out the season with a 20-5 overall record while the Bears improved to 26-3 and will now face Big 12 foe Oklahoma in second round action at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center.
