WOMEN'S TENNIS CONCLUDES DAY ONE AT WILSON/ITA REGIONALS

LUBBOCK - UT Arlington women's tennis team completed day one of competition at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships in Lubbock.
Sophomore Sofya Lifanova and freshman Monika Hadvigerova picked up wins to advance in the qualifying singles bracket. Lifanova won easily 6-2, 6-2 over UT Pan American's Stephanie Willerding, and Hadvigerova advance with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Houston's Lynley Wasson.
Sophomore Sara Pesic dropped her first match of the day 6-3, 6-4 to Houston's Lucy Forward, but bounced back in the consolation bracket to win 6-3, 6-1 over Megan Bedeau from UTPA.
In the round of 32 Lifanova won her first set 6-1, but dropped the next two 6-4, 6-4 to Louisiana-Lafayette's Angela Dangond. Hadvigerova dropped the first set of her second match 5-7 to Kim van der Horst, but came back to take the second set 6-3 before falling 6-3 in the third.
In doubles action Hadvigerova paired up with sophomore Klara Jagosova to win 8-4 over UTEP's Amber Brightly and Marina DeLuca. They are scheduled to face Lamar's Mariaryeri Gutierrez and Andrea Martinez as double action continues on Saturday.
Jagosova will play her first singles match of the tournament on Saturday in the Main Singles Draw against North Texas's Madura Ranganathan.
