MONIKA HADVIGEROVA RANKS NINTH IN THE ITA DIVISION I SOUTHWEST REGION

Arlington, Texas - On Tuesday, January 6 the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the ITA Division I Southwest Rankings where sophomore Monika Hadvigerova ranked in the ninth spot among some of the best women's tennis athletes in the country.

"I'm very happy and proud of Monika, said head men's and women's tennis coach Diego Benitez. "She has worked very hard for the last year and she deserves to be ranked among the best players in the nation. She has all the components needed to be rank in the top 50 in the nation."

This fall, Hadvigerova captured her first singles title at the Mean Green Invitational on Sunday, September 15 in Denton, Texas. She posted wins over opponents from Texas Tech, North Texas, UTSA and SMU.

Last season, Hadvigerova was named to the All-SLC Singles Second Team after recording 29 victories as the Mavericks number-one singles' and doubles' player.

The Mavericks kick off the 2009 season in Little Rock, Ark. against Arkansas State on Friday, January 23 at 9 a.m.
