Jonesboro, Ark. - In similar success as the men's tennis team, the women's tennis squad recorded its first win of the season over Arkansas State 4-3 in Jonesboro, Ark.

Doubles' competition started the morning off for UTA, as tandem Klara Jagosova and Katarina Micochova dropped a 4-8 decision over Jenny Herring and Emily Laing.

In the number-two spot in the rotation, Monica Hadvigerova and Daiana Negreanu suffered an 4-8 setback over Paula Chelminska and Elne Barnard while newcomer Maria Martinez-Romer and Nicola Matovicova captured a 9-7 victory against Rone van Wyk and Leydi Zora.

After losing the doubles' match point, the Mavs fought hard in singles' action collecting four of the six matches.

Hadvigerova led UTA with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Herring playing in the number-one position in the lineup while Negreanu handed Chelminska a 6-4, 6-1 setback.

Playing in the number-three spot in the rotation, junior Jagosova recorded a 6-4, 4-6 and 10-8 win over van Wyk while Martinez-Romer captured her second victory of the season by a final score of 6-4, 6-2 against Barnard.

Falling short of a win in the number-five position was Itzel Manzanera, who dropped a 4-6, 2-6 decision to Zora while senior Sara Pesic suffered a 4-6, 4-6 loss over Menna Kamal.

Tennis action continues tomorrow morning in Little Rock, Ark where UTA will face UALR, with match time set for 11:30 a.m.
