Frisco, Texas - UT Arlington sophomore Katarina Mlcochova and senior Dmitry Minkin have been named the Southland Conference's men's and women's tennis player of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Mlcochova opened the season going a perfect 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles action. The Bratislava, Slovakia, native handed Kelsy Garland of Texas Tech a 7-5, 4-6 and 6-3 loss and followed that performance with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over New Mexico's Kristen Eggleston.

In doubles action, Mlcochova and teammate Klara Jagosova notched a 9-8 win against New Mexico's No. 1 doubles team.

Honorable mention for this week's women's award goes to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi freshman Doris Kuselj and Texas State senior Nyssa Peele. A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention.

Minkin was one of two Mavericks to record a singles win against No. 38 Texas Christian Sunday at the UTA Tennis Center. The St. Petersburg, Russia, native handed TCU's No. 1 singles player a 6-3, 3-6 and 6-2 loss.

In doubles action, Minkin and teammate Mindaugas Celedinas dropped a 9-7 decision to Paul Chappell and Marius-Adrian Cirste in the top spot.

Honorable mention for this week's men's award goes to Nicholls freshman Roy Knight and UT Pan American junior Ashwin Vijayaragavan. A student-athlete must receive 25-percent of the votes from the league's SIDs in order to qualify for honorable mention.

Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
