WOMEN'S TENNIS BEGINS SPRING SCHEDULE
Jan. 28, 2008
ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team begins dual match action this week as they host the North Texas Mean Green and the SMU Mustangs in back-to-back matches on Wednesday and Thursday, at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks return two letterwinners from last year's squad, who finished with a 15-4 record and a third place finish in the Southland Conference. Sophomore Sofya Lifanova posted a squad-best 15-2 record in singles action last season and was 13-4 in doubles action, pairing with departed senior Marissa Brown. Junior Sara Pesic went 15-4 in doubles play last year with departed senior Daniela Novakova and 12-5 in singles matches.
After redshirting the 2006-07 season, Klara Jagosova, will be back on the court for UTA. As a freshman, Jagosova advanced to the NCAA Championships and ended the season ranked 67th in the FILA College Tennis Polls.
Both North Texas and SMU already have two duel matches under their belts for the 2008 season. The Mean Green dropped their season opener 3-4 at Rice, but bounced back to sweep the win from Stephen F. Austin. The Mustangs are off to a 2-0 start with wins over Harvard and Brown last week.
