MAVERICKS DROP 6-1 DECISION TO RICE

Houston, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on the road against Rice University on Saturday, January 31 at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
With the setback, the Mavs fell to 2-1 overall while the Owls improved to 4-1 on the season.
Sophomore Monika Hadvigerova was the only Maverick to record a victory against Rice, collecting a 6-4, 4-6 and 10-5 win over Rice's number-one singles' player Julie Chai.
UT Arlington led things off with doubles' competition where all three Mavs dropped their matches. In the No. 1 position Klara Jagosova and Nikola Matovivoa suffered a 9-8 setback over Julie Chao and Ana Guzman while No. 2 singles' partners Hadvigerova and Daiana Negreanu lost an 8-6 decision to Varsha Shiva-Shankar and Jessica Jackson.
Emily Braid and Alex Rasch of Rice handed Edery and Maria Martinez-Romer a 8-6 loss in the No.3 spot in the rotation.
In singles' action, Negreanu dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Guzman in the No. 2 position while Katarina Mlcochova lost her match by a final score of 6-1, 6-2 to Jessica Jackson in the No 3. spot.
Rebecca Lin handed Jagosova a 6-4, 6-1 setback in the No. 4 position in the lineup while Maria Martinez-Romer lost a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Varsha Shiva-Shankar at the No. 5 spot and senior Sara Pesic dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Alex Rasch in the No. 6 position.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Friday, February 13 against Memphis at the UTA Tennis Center, with match time set at 9:30 a.m.
