Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington men's and women's tennis teams defended their home court with both recording wins Saturday afternoon. The women notched a 5-2 victory over Stephen F. Austin and the men followed with a 5-2 non-conference win over DePaul.
The women remain unbeaten in conference action, improving their overall record to 9-0. UTA's big test will come on Saturday, Apr. 10 where they will face also undefeated Northwestern State at 11 a.m. Last season, the Mavs recorded a 6-1 win in the regular season and a 4-0 win in the SLC Tournament.
UT Arlington won all three flights in doubles, collecting the point and won four of six singles matches.
In doubles action, Daiana Negreanu and Klara Jagosova handed Alina Shazhko and Roxana Enica an 8-5 loss in the top spot while Katarina Micochova andMonika Hadvigerova notched a 6-5 victory against Paola Montuenga and Tatiana Smolnikova in the No. 2 position.
Maria Martinez-Romer and Nicola Matovicova wrapped up the doubles competition with an easy 8-1 win over Andi Enica and Jamie Williams in the No. 3 spot.
The Mavericks recorded wins in the No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 positions. Hadvigerova collected a straight-set 6-1, 6-0 win over Enica in the top flight while Jagosova dropped the No. 2 flight to Shazhko with a final score of 7-5, 5-7 and 10-4.
Micochova dropped the No. 3 flight to Montuenga 6-4, 6-1 while Martinez-Romero notched a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Smolnikova in the No. 4 position.
Negreanu handed Pacuat a 6-2, 6-1 loss in the No. 5 flight while Matovicova notched a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Meaghan Ocanas in the No. 6 spot.
The men also had a good day at the UTA Tennis Courts recording a 5-2 win over DePaul University. The win improved the men to 6-8 overall.
UTA won two of three flights in doubles, recording the point and collected wins in four of six singles flights.
No. 1 doubles team Dmitry Minkin and Mindaugas Celedinas handed Matija Palinic and Bartosz Jozwiak a 9-8 loss while Brieuc Hamon and Yauheni Yakaulen dropped an 8-5 decision to Mathias Hambach and Vanja Grgec in the No. 2 position. Gonzalo Bienzobas and Adam Srkala secured the doubles point with a 9-7 victory against Alasdair Graetz and Douglas Perrin in the No. 3 position.
In the singles part of competition, the Mavs won the No.1, 2, 3 and 4 flights but came up short in the 5 and 6.
Minkin collected a 6-2, 6-3 win against Jozwiak in the top flight while Celedinas recorded a three-set win over Graetz with a score of 6-7,1-6,and 6-4.
Hamon handed Palinic a 2-6,6-1,and 6-3 loss in the No. 3 flight while Yakaulen won a straight set 6-2, 6-2 win over Hartman in the No. 4 position.
Subirats dropped a 6-4,2-6,and 6-2 decision against Grgec in the No. 5 spot while Jason Lateko lost the No. 6 flight to Hambach, 5-7,6-2,and 7-6.
The men will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 6 for a conference match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
