FRISCO, Texas – UT Arlington freshman Verena Scott has been named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Scott went 3-0 last week, leading the Mavericks to a 9-2 conference record, including a victory against previously undefeated Stephen F. Austin.
"I am very happy about it and feel really honored to get this award," Scott said. I've been working hard the past few months and it's nice to see it is paying off."
The London, England native, earned a No. 2 singles win against Sheridan Currie of Sam Houston State before teaming up with partner Christine Foote for an 8-4 win against Bearkats Olivia Battye and Imke Jagau. Against Stephen F. Austin, Scott earned a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Alina Shazhko, helping the Mavericks to a 4-0 conference win. Scott is 15-7 in singles play this season with a 9-2 conference record.
Honorable mention this week goes to Northwestern State freshman Tatiana Larina and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi junior Doris Kuselj. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women's tennis sports information directors.
