Frisco, Texas - Just days away from the 2010 Southland Conference Tournament eight Mavericks from both the men's and women's teams earned all-conference honors.

The women finished the regular season with a 10-6 overall record and a 10-1 conference mark while the men finished their season as the SLC champions after recording a 4-1 conference record.

On the women side, Daiana Negreanu, Maria Martinez-Romero and Nikola Matovivoa represented UT Arlington on the all-conference teams.

Playing at the No. 5 singles spot, Negreanu earned First Team All-SLC honors after recording a perfect 9-0 conference mark.

For the second time in career, Martinez-Romero earned second team all-SLC accolades. Martinez-Romero finished conference action with a 10-1 mark and a 12-3 overall record at the No. 4 position.

No. 3 doubles team-Martinez-Romero and Matovivoa earned a spot on the second team all-SLC list after wrapping up the regular season with a perfect 9-0 mark. The tandem also won their last 10 straight doubles matches and finished with a 10-2 overall record.

The 2010 Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championship begins Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Two opening round games will be played Friday with two semifinals to follow on Saturday. The championship game will be played at noon on Sunday.

As the men head into the Southland Conference Tournament as the No. 1 seed four Mavs were named to the all-conference teams. Sophomores David Subirats and Jason Lateko were named to the all-SLC singles second team while doubles team Brieuc Hamon and Yauheni Yakaulen earned a spot on the second team.

 

 

Subirats received second-team honors at the No. 4 singles spot with an overall conference record of 4-1. Lateko also received second-team honors. Lateko went 3-2 at the No. 6 spot for UT Arlington.

The No. 2 doubles duo of Brieuc Hamon and Yauheni Yakauleu earned second-team honors with a 3-2 conference record and an 8-8 overall record.
