MAVERICKS RECORD SLC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 4-0 WIN OVER UTSA

Corpus Christi, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington women's tennis squad earned their fifth Southland Conference Tournament Championship in UTA women's history on Sunday, April 26 by defeating UTSA, 4-0 at the HEB Tennis Courts in Corpus Christi, Texas. In grand fashion, the Mavericks breezed by the Roadrunners in double's action and singles competition. UTA earned wins in two of the doubles flights and three of the singles matches. The other three matches went unfinished. Daiana Negreanu and Klara Jagosova took care business in the top doubles position by defeating Karen Scida and Micaela Silva, 8-0. In the No. 2 spot, Maria Martinez-Romer and Nikola Matovivoa handed Monika Drabkova and Caroline Dedering an 8-2 setback while Monika Hadvigerova and Katarina Micochova's match against Nathalie Wallin and Holly Phillips went unfinished with the Mavs leading 7-2. Hadvigerova collected a 6-2, 6-4 win over Karen Scida in the No. 1 position while Negreanu's match over Wallin went unfinished with the sophomore leading 6-3, 0-6, and 1-2 in the second flight. Jagosova easily won her flight against Phillips, 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 3 position while Mlcochova's match over Drabkova went unfinished with her leading 3-6, 3-4. Martinez-Romer remains undefeated in conference action after recording a 6-2, 6-2 win against Dedering while Matovivoa's match also went unfinished against Silva. Matovivoa led the match 6-7 (3-7), 3-2 before it was called.
It is yet to be determined who the Mavericks will match up against in the NCAA Tournament. This marks the fifth time the Mavs have advanced to NCAA Tournament and they have yet to record a win in the first round.
