ARLINGTON, Texas - Freshman Klara Jagosova was selected as an automatic qualifier for the 2006 NCAA Division I Championships on Friday.
Jagosova a native of Prerov, Czech Republic, is unranked in the field of 64. She received the Southland conference's automatic bid into the tournament. She has compiled a 25-10 overall record in singles play, which includes a 10-4 record in fall tournament play and a 15-6 record in spring dual match play. She is currently ranked #100 in the nation and reached as high as #49. Some notable victories include Baylor's Carolin Walter, who was ranked #29 in the nation at the time and also knocking off Southland Conference Player of the Year, Andrea Martinez in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Jagosova also won the singles championship at the 2005 Mean Green Invitational.
Brackets have not been finalized, so Jagosova will have to wait to see who her first-round opponent will be. The singles tournament will take place May 23-28 at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif. following the conclusion of the NCAA Team Championship (May 18-22).
