No. 4 Baylor collected their fourth straight Big 12 championship title with a 4-1 victory over Texas on Sunday, Apr. 26 at the Headington Tennis Center.

All four of Baylor's Big 12 Championship titles have come over Texas and the victory was Baylor's 41st consecutive over league opponents and extended its win streak 18 matches. With the win, the Bears raised their season record to 24-4.

Lenka Broosova ranks No. 33 in the latest Campbell's/ITA singles rankings and is currently riding a 15-match winning streak. She has a record of 27-6 this season, including 22-3 in dual-match action.

No. 39 Taylor Ormond receives her second-straight bid to the NCAA Singles Championship after falling to top-seeded Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas in the second round. Ormond currently holds a record of 27-19 overall and 13-12 in dual matches.

Jelena Stanivuk makes her first appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship after compiling a record of 30-6 overall, including 21-2 in dual-match action. Stanivuk, ranked No. 44 in the nation, currently holds a 13-match winning streak.

In addition, Broosova will team with Csilla Borsanyi in the NCAA Doubles Championships. Currently ranked No. 13 in the nation, the duo finished the regular season with a 23-10 overall record, 16-6 in dual matches.

The Bears wrapped up the regular season with a 11-0 conference mark and posted an 18-4 record against nationally-ranked opponents.

Women's Tennis Notes

The Mavericks finished the SLC and in the conference tournament undefeated.

Five of six of the Mavericks starters finished with 10-plus victories in singles action. Newcomer Maria Martinez-Romer finished the regular season with a 21-2 singles record and a 12-7 mark in doubles action.

Romer's only losses came against Rice University and SMU earlier this season. She is riding on a 19 game win streak in singles play and a seven game win streak in doubles action with teammate Nikola Matovicova.

The Mavericks enter the NCAA Tournament on a nine game win streak after posting an undefeated 11-0 mark in conference action and a perfect 3-0 record in the SLC Tournament.

Head Coach Diego Benitez was named the SLC Coach of the Year and guided three of his newcomers to league honors.

The Mavs losses this season came against Rice University, SMU, No. 42 Yale, Univ. of San Diego, Univ. of New Mexico, and New Mexico State .

In the Mavs four NCAA Tournament appearances they have yet to record a victory, falling in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2004. All UTA's losses came against Big 12 schools.

UT Arlington's last tournament appearance was in 2004 against Texas where they fell, 4-0.

There has never been a Southland Conference team that has moved pasted the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Women's SLC Tournament Recap
,p> In round one of the SLC Tournament, the Mavericks matched up against No. 8 seed SFA and posted a 4-1 win. The win advanced the Mavs to the second round where they would face off against Northwestern State.

UTA easily won the doubles point after capturing all three matches. With a 1-0 advantage over the Lady Jacks, the Mavericks dominated singles play, winning all but one flight.

Day two of the SLC Tournament proved successful for the Mavericks as they shutout Northwestern State, 4-0 and advanced to the championship game.

The Mavericks started the day with doubles action where they recorded the match point. UTA collected wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions but dropped the top flight.

UTA earned their fifth Southland Conference Tournament Championship in UTA women's history on Sunday, April 26 by defeating UTSA, 4-0 In grand fashion, the Mavericks breezed by the Roadrunners in double's action and singles competition. UTA earned wins in two of the doubles flights and three of the singles matches. The other three matches went unfinished.
