Tennis Adds Three to Women's Roster

Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington head women's tennis coach Diego Benitez announced the signing of Linda Aqvist (Gothenburg, Sweden), Giada D'ortona (Bologna, Italy) and Natalia Mayuk (Belgorod, Russia) to a national letters of intent to begin playing for the Mavericks in the fall of 2010.
"We are very happy with our incoming players," said both Head Coach Diego Benitez and Assistant Coach Marco Matteucci. "We are very excited for the upcoming season and believe they will fit in well here at UT Arlington and help us go after another southland conference championship."
Aqvist comes to UTA from Gothenburg, Sweden where she was part of the Swedish National Team at the European Championships and was ranked 384 in the ITF Juniors. She was consistently ranked one of the top-4 juniors in Sweden reaching a high of No.1 in Sweden. The newly signed Maverick recorded wins over top-500 WTA players and captured the Swedish Championship last year.
D'ortona, a Bologna, Italy native was one of the top juniors in Italy where she achieved a ranking of 2.7 by the Italian Federation. She also was ranked as high as 240 in the ITF Junior rankings while collecting wins over top-100 ITF Junior players. In 2008, D'ortona captured a G4 ITF doubles tournament in Taiwan.
Mayuk, a transfer student from Mississippi State University played last season at MSU where she played mostly at the No. 3 position in singles and No. 1 in doubles. In her first season with the Bulldogs, she finished with a team leading 16 single's wins playing mostly at the No. 5 spot.
Mayuk also registered 12 doubles wins which included her most notable win over 16th ranked-LSU. Prior to MSU, Mayuk was an outstanding performer as an amateur tennis play, won in singles competition at the Cup of Belgorod.
The new student-athletes will begin playing with the Mavericks in the fall of 2010.
