ARLINGTON, Texas - The 2012-13 men's and women's tennis season is set to being this weekend in Las Cruces, New Mexico as New Mexico State hosts the Aggie Invite.
"I am very much looking forward to our first competition," UT Arlington head tennis coach Diego Benitez said. "The team has worked really hard especially conditioning wise.
"This is the time to work on individual rankings and each tournament will provide the opportunity for each of our players to compete against the best in the nation."
Returner Liucija Smaaizyte and newcomer Katarine Dikosavljevic will also be competing in Las Cruces this weekend.
The Aggie Invite is an eight-team tournament which includes host team New Mexico State, Abilene Christian, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, St. Edwards, UT El Paso, UT Permian Basin and the Mavericks.
The tournament will begin on Friday with first round doubles at 9 a.m. MT followed by singles action. On Saturday, the start time will also begin at 9. Target ending times for each of the first two days is 4 p.m. MT. For the finals on Sunday, play will begin at 9 a.m. and should conclude by noon.
Verena Scott, Giada D'ortona, Elizabeth Thoms and Brook Dennis will be traveling to Midland, Texas this weekend to compete in The Racquet Club Invitational.
