Sept. 20, 2012 By Melissa Cebold | UTAMavs.com ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women’s tennis team is heading to Lawrence, Kansas to compete in the KU Invitational this weekend. Mavericks will be joined by Kansas, Wichita State, UMKC, South Dakota, Abilene Christian and future Sun Belt competitors Arkansas State and Arkansas-Little Rock. The tournament will begin Friday and conclude Sunday afternoon. “The KU Invitational is a great fall tournament,” UT Arlington head coach Diego Benitez said. “A lot of great schools compete and it gives everyone the opportunity to play a lot of matches. Returners Giada D’Ortona and Liucija Smaizyte are expected to put up a tough fight this week along with freshmen Brooke Dennis, Elizabeth Thoms and Katarina Dikosavljevic.
“This is what we need and want during the fall semester, to play as many matches and try to improve our individual regional and national rankings,” Benitez said.
