ARLINGTON, Texas - UTA men and women’s tennis head into the weekend with major tournaments at hand. Men’s tennis will travel to San Antonio for the UTSA Cup, while the women will be in Fort Worth for the ITA Texas Regional.
The women's tennis team is set for the ITA Texas Regional, hosted by TCU. Last weekend, the Mavs had two players reach the consolation finals, Nanaka Takeuchi and Lucia Natal. Despite both falling in the opening round at the SMU Invitational, both were able to bounce back and reach their respective final.
After a great showing at the ITA Texas Regional last season, winning the doubles consolation championship, the women look to conclude their fall schedule with a strong showing at the regional tournament.
The men are coming off solid performance from the 2017 Saint Francis ITA Men’s All-American Championship. Mauricio Del Rio advanced into the Round of 64 in the tournament with a pair of wins. Eduard Simo was the only Mav to join Del Rio in the second round prevailing over Guillem Sanchis of Eastern Kentucky.
UTA will send four to the UTSA Cup in San Antonio for the three-day event. The Mavericks squad will include Del Rio, Simo, Sansidh Kommaraju and Andre Russo. The second annual UTSA Cup is held at the UTSA Tennis Center and will consist of Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, Tyler Junior College and host UTSA.
