ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington women's tennis will host nine of its 21 matches, including the Feb. 2 season opener against UTRGV, announced by head coach Diego Benitez on Monday.
Playing in the tough Texas Region, an exciting slate awaits the Mavericks in 2018. UTA will take on seven teams from within the region, including a home date against SMU on Senior Day.
"It is always a challenging schedule when you are in this region," Benitez said. "We have compiled a good schedule to prepare us for the Sun Belt Championships in April, and have some very good opponents on the road away from the state as well. I am excited to see how the ladies play against some top competition this season."
Following the opener, UTA hits the road to take on Wichita State (Feb. 3) and UMKC (Feb. 4) before returning back to the home court for three consecutive matches against in-state foes. The Mavs take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Feb. 7, Rice on Feb. 9 and Sam Houston State on Feb. 24.
UTA then heads west for three matches in the Mountain Time Zone. UTA takes on New Mexico State and Wyoming in Las Cruces, N.M. before heading to El Paso to take on UTEP.
The first of three Sun Belt Conference pods takes place at the UTA Tennis Center on March 13 and 14 when the Mavs host Georgia Southern and Troy. Following a trip to the west coast to play at San Francisco and Pacific, UTA goes to ULM and Arkansas State on March 23-24.
The home portion closes with back-to-back matches beginning with UTSA on March 28 before Senior Day on April 4 against Metroxplex rival SMU.
The league portion closes with a pod at Texas State with matches against the Bobcats and Louisiana on April 7-8, then the schedule ends at North Texas on April 14.
Looking for a shot at the Sun Belt crown, the league championship will be held in Peachtree City, Ga. on April 19-22.
