ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington women's tennis team announced its spring schedule for the 2014 season.
The Mavericks begin play on Jan. 18 when UTA travels across town to face metroplex rival TCU in Fort Worth. The Mavs face their first home test on Jan. 1, hosting Midwestern State and Tarleton State at the UTA Tennis Center.
"We feel great about our schedule," UT Arlington coach Diego Benitez said. "I think it gives us the opportunity to play some really good matches at home and built optimum momentum."
UTA welcomes Dallas Baptist and Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 8, Texas A&M Corpus Chrisi on Feb. 13, and closed its home swing against Wichita State on Feb. 15.
A tough road schedule sends the Mavs into April. Follow away matches against Kansas, UTSA, UL-Lafayette and ULM, UTA makes a swing through California.
Beginning the trip on March 15, UTA takes on Cal Poly and then Fresno State on March 16. The Mavericks make a trip to Sacramento State on March 18 and face former Western Athletic Conference foe San Jose State, now in the Mountain West, on March 19.
"We don't mind playing on the road,' Benitez said. "It is always fun to play new competition. Other than that, there is not a big difference. We play the same no matter who we are playing. We will give it all every day and in every match."
Returning to the UTA Tennis Center, the Mavericks face in-state rivals Houston and SMU on March 18 and 19 respecitvely. A brief road swing sees UTA to Tulsa and North Texas before closing out the home schedule in April against Middle Tennessee State, Texas State and South Alabama.
The 2014 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will begin on April 17 in New Orleans.
