During 2011, his first season on the UT Arlington track and field staff, Wade Hayes paid dividends working with the squad's pole vaulters. Under Hayes' direction, sophomore Jeff Rodriguez tied for second in the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships and ultimately earned second-team All-America honors after placing 14th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In addition, Rodriguez was the Drake Relays champion in the pole vault. Hayes, who also coaches other field events, was a four-year standout for the Mavericks track and field team. He won five consecutive Southland Conference championships in the pole vault and also held the school record with a mark of 5.18 meters. A graduate of Bonham High School, Hayes was an all-district football player and a two-year letterman in baseball in addition to his track accomplishments. A 2010 graduate of UT Arlington, Hayes earned his degree in kinesiology. |
