Mose, Carter fare well at J.D. Martin Invite

NORMAN, Okla. - UTA distance runners Carranda Mose (Pearland, Texas) and Courtney Carter (Mesquite, Texas) used season-best times to place in the top four in the 800 meter run and the mile run at the J.D. Martin Invitational here Feb. 5.

Mose shaved two seconds off her 800-meter time to finish second with a 2:20.09. Carter clocked a 5:10.37 for fourth place in the mile run.

As a team, UTA finished sixth with 46 points. Barton County (Kan.) Community College won the meet with 129 points, followed by host Oklahoma with 109.

Junior Lacey Moore (Great Bend, Kan.) cleared a personal-best 11-00.75 for fourth place in the pole vault.

Freshman distance runner Jodi Hulett (Arlington, Texas), an all-Southland conference cross country runner last fall, took fourth in the 3,000 meters with a 10:41.63.

In the sprints, Shana Rash (Midlothian, Texas) timed a 25.61 for fourth place and Kourtnee Jones (Abilene, Texas) clocked a 25.74 for fifth place in the 20 meters.

Linda Rosema (Azle, Texas) continued her dramatic rise in the league's newest event - the weight throw. Rosema placed in the top five for the second consecutive meet with a 47-07.325 for fifth place. She was joined by sophomore Katie Godfrey (Katy, Texas) who finished sixth in the weight throw with a 38-03.50.

In the jumps, Randee Wales (Olney, Texas) posted a personal-best 17-10.75 for fifth place in the long jump. Freshman Angela Gonzales (Merkel, Texas) was next at 17-09.50. Sophomore Zizan Seymore (Woodlands, South Africa) cleared 5-04.25 in the high jump for third place.



Tara Burns (Midland, Texas) posted the top 60-meter hurdle time by a Mav this season with a 9.00 for fourth place.

A select group will compete at the Tyson/Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Saturday. The remainder of the team will compete at the Southland Conference Indoor Track Championships Feb. 18-19 in Houston, Texas.
