TEXAS-ARLINGTON TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS START SEASON AT COLLEGE STATION RELAY

The University of Texas at Arlington men's and women's track and field teams both brought home 12 top ten finishes from the College Station Relays Friday.

The women's 400-meter relay team, made up of Candeese Cawley (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica), Camille Duckett (Arlington), Rukaiya Holland (Houston) and Brittany Williams (Fort Worth) won the event and qualified for regionals with a time of 45.98.

Holland also won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.16 and the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.77. Holland also placed third in the long jump by recording a jump of 18-10.

Sophomore Shaniqua White (Killeen) is returning this season after suffering a knee injury during the 2002 preseason. She placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.48. She also placed fifth in the long jump with a jump of 18-06.

Freshman Nicole Noel (Lewisville) placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.60 before finishing tenth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:56.77.

On the men's side senior Stefan Johansson (Falkoping, Sweden) placed third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:56.17.

Sophomore Clement Taylor (Nassau, Bahamas) placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.76. He also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09.

Junior Josh Rosenthal (Carthage) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.71.

The Mavericks will return to action on Saturday, March 29 as they host the 2003 Arlington Invitational, which will be held at Maverick Stadium.
