MAV WOMEN FINISH SIXTH AT SLC CHAMPIONSHIP

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The UT Arlington women's track and field team received all-conference performances from Kourtnee Jones, Ivorita Taylor, and Stacey Bennett to claim sixth place at the 2007 Southland Conference Track and Field Championship Sunday.
The Mavericks finished with 71.5 points over the three-day event held at the Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches.
"I thought we just didn't have enough people competing in the finals," said UT Arlington Head Track and Field Coach John Sauerhage. "We had some injuries this spring and we need to add a few pieces."
Jones doubled her all-SLC honors with three medals over the weekend. Jones finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.61, second in the 200 meters with a 23.61 and was the anchor leg of the 4x100-meter relay that won the SLC crown with a season-best and NCAA region-qualifying time of 45.44.
Taylor concluded her collegiate career with a region-qualifying time 2:09.49 in the 800 meters.
Bennett matched her personal-best height of 5-08.75 in the high jump for third place and all-conference honors.
The 1,600-meter relay team of Chamberlain Garber, Bryana Hill, Crystal Thompson and Antonia Hopkins just missed all-SLC honors with a fourth-place time of 3:45.81. Hopkins also took fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 56.63. She had a person-best time of 55.72 in the prelims.
Freshman Jasmine Walls finished fourth in the 200 meters with a 24.19.
Sophomore Erin Cluiss was fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 11-05.75.
Senior Linda Rosema ended her career with points in the discus and hammer throw. She placed fourth in the hammer with a toss of 168-07 and was fifth in the discus with a 145-06.
Jones, senior pole vaulter Vanessa Maida, Bennett, Taylor and the 400-meter relay will all advance to the NCAA Midwest Region Meet, May 26-27, in Des Moines, Iowa. -utamavs.com -
